Blizzard Warning Suffolk Winter Storm Warning Nassau County
Blizzard Warning is in effect for Suffolk County. 9 to 12 inches of snow are forecast and we will several hours or more of heavy snow combined with gale force winds and visibility under 1/4 of a mile which will create blizzard conditions. In Nassau County we have a Winter Storm Warning in effect for 6 to 9 inches of snow with conditions just below blizzard criteria though it won’t take much to bring that up to a blizzard warning as well.
This cyclone is going to be one of the strongest storms we have see off our seaboard in many years as measured by lowest pressure which will be near 950 millibars or around 28.00 inches on your home barometer! The satellite loop shows the storm off the Southeast coast intensifying rapidly tonight as it lifts northward. Snow should begin during the early morning hours around 4am or so with the heaviest snow falling between 8am and 3pm on Thursday.
While not in our range yet you can see the snow on the regional radar above moving northward from the Carolinas and Virginia. This storm will produce blizzard conditions from Eastern Virginia to Delmarva, Coastal New Jersey and parts of coastal New England.
Snow should taper off late in the afternoon however the strong winds continue and that will blow snow around fiercely with wind gusts to 50 mph at times. Temperatures will be falling through the 20s all day and by Friday morning we will be down in the single digits. Friday highs may barely get above 10 and then we will head down below zero for Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday highs just back to the low teens. Sunday’s highs will be near 20. At least we will have sunshine over the weekend.
