Drought Conditions Worsen Over The Weekend

With regards to the drought, conditions over the weekend got even worse thanks to the extreme heat and humidity. Other than the scattered downpour or thunderstorm, the rain has been non existent. Temperatures reached the middle to upper 90s on both weekend days. The ground continues to be baked like cement. 

Suffolk County continues under pressure from the lack of rainfall as deficits remain at well over 12 inches in some places. Unless there is a surprise, there is no widespread rain in the forecast. We will be at the mercy of day to day downpours and thunderstorms. Over the weekend what few storms we had produced very little though the lightning shows were spectacular in some instances.

SO FAR THIS AUGUST RAINFALL DEFICITS ARE RUNNING AT 1 TO 2 INCHES OR MORE.

So far this August rainfall has been running at least 50 percent below normal which means the rainfall deficits are now in the 12 to 14 inch range. Imagine 4 to 5 months of rain would have to fall just to break even.

Nothing of consequence is on the radar tonight and only scattered activity is possible on Tuesday. The drought marches on. It is a little less severe in Nassau County. Rainfall forecasts for the next 2 days are all under a quarter of an inch.
