Easter Sunday Gloomy Clouds Long Island Showers Return Monday

A Happy Easter to all on a day where Long Island sits betwee a dry slot of partly sunny skies just to the west and some showers that lie just to the east. This leaves us in clouds for much of the rest of this afternoon. The edge of sunshine could reach into Nassau County at times but it appears that Suffolk will be sitting in the gloominess of low clouds all afternoon. At least the showers from overnight have stopped for now and most are lying just to the east. Temperatures are holding in the 50s due to the cloud cover.

REGIONAL RADAR

Overnight and into this morning we experienced some showers coming in from off the ocean. Right now the radar shows most of the showers to the east clipping Eastern Long Island as well as parts of Southeast New England. We don’t see much going on due south of Long Island so this should keep things relatively dry though an isolated shower can’t be ruled out.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

We still aren’t done with the clouds and the showers with the frontal boundary to the east and the upper low to the west. Clouds will be around tonight and a wave of low pressure will develop on the front and bring clouds and the chance for showers on Monday into Monday night. Temperatures will probably hold in a tight range in the upper 50s to lower 60s. It doesn’t rain straight through and there will be dry stretches.

Tuesday is shaping up to be a nice day  as the systems over us now pulls away to the east and the next cold front doesn’t arrive until later Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Sunshine should take temperatures up at least into the mid and upper 60s and I think 70s are possible especially away from the ocean. The front coming through Wednesday morning will have a few passing showers with it and then clouds will give way to some sun later Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 60s away from the ocean. No big storms are on the horizon this week other than passing cold fronts every couple of days.
