Excessive Heat Warning Heat Advisory
Excessive Heat Warning Heat Advisory
It isn’t often that Long Island sees an Excessive Heat Warning Heat Advisory posted but we have that condition right now. For Nassau it is an Excessive Heat Warning and for Suffolk it is a Heat Advisory. Here are some 3pm temperatures. The south wind has kicked in and temperatures have peaked and beginning to fall off. However it remains very humid.

The difference is that in Nassau which is usually warmer, it will feel like it is over 100 degrees over the next 2 days. In Suffolk it will be more like 90 to 95 thanks to the ocean wind. Either way it is oppressive out there and will remain so through the weekend.
The only “relief” will come with downpours and thunderstorms and we will be watching the radars over the weekend. Of course this summer has seen relatively little thunderstorm activity. Suffolk County remains under a severe drought and the heat will only make the dry conditions even worse. Many area lakes are drying up. Rainfall deficits exceed 12 inches in many areas.
For Saturday and Sunday it will be oppressive with sun and clouds and the risk for scattered pop up downpours and thunderstorms. Highs both days will be in the 90s. At the beaches the sea breeze is going to be held back until late in the day. Even there temperatures could reach 90 over the next 2 days.
No real relief will come until Monday and Tuesday with slightly lower humidity and slightly lower temperatures.
