First Round of Storms Miss Long Island More To The West Threaten Later This Evening

We saw thunderstorms blow up this afternoon from Northeast Virginia to Southern New England but most of this first round weakened as they moved over Long Island. The sea breeze probably had a hand in that weakening but to the west we have more thunderstorms firing up in Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey as a cold front and upper trough move east. These stand a higher chance of holding up as they move toward Long Island after 7 or 8 pm this evening.

The radars are exceptionally busy over interior Southern New England, the Hudson Valley and Western New Jersey. The ones in Western New Jersey and in Central Pennsylvania are the ones to keep an eye on for later on.

WEATHER RADAR

We do have a Severe Thunderstorm watch and a Flash Flood Watch for Nassau County but not for Suffolk County. Still it is always a good idea in cases like this to be on alert. Once the threat for thunderstorms ends late this evening or certainly by midnight, we will have leftover clouds after that. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Sunday look for clouds with only limited sun if any, and the chance for scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Most highs will be in the low 80s. Tonight’s cold front will stall out nearby causing the chance for showers to remain in the forecast. Humidity levels will remain high on Sunday. Monday looks partly sunny with the chance for showers and a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening. Highs will again in the lower 80s and it will remain humid. Another front arrives Tuesday and Wednesday with another upper trough so there are more chances for scattered showers or a thunderstorm. Thursday could be the one day this week with little or no risk. A stronger front arrives Friday with a solid chance for showers and thunderstorms. It is going to be an active week.
