Ocean Wind Keeps Temperatures in the 70s
Hamptons Air Conditioner Spreads Westward
While much of the area baked today with temperatures reaching 90 or better in many places west of New York City, the Hamptons air conditioner went to work and temperatures there stayed pretty much in the 70s. This is what a 55 degree ocean does this time of year and at least they were spared the heat and the cost of electricity.
The satellite loop shows Tropical Storm Bonnie to the south of South Carolina. If you look close you might be able to pick out a cluster of thunderstorms that has developed just northwest of New York City.
Those storms are moving eastward and it is possible they could move into Western Nassau County shortly should they hold together. The wind has turned southeast across New York City and this could wind up killing off those storms as they head toward Long Island. That would seem the most likely outcome. However keep an eye to the sky if you are in Western Long Island for the next couple of hours.
Tonight will be warm and humid with lows in the 60s. Sunday should be a repeat of today with no worse than partly sunny skies with highs into the 80s before the ocean wind kicks in. No rain other than a late pop up storm is indicated for Sunday.
