L.I. REMAINS COLD & DRY, RAIN RETURNS BY WEEKEND

Today has been yet another cold day with plenty of sunshine. Skies are nice and clear over much of the Northeast into the Northern Middle Atlantic states. Temperatures which bottomed out this morning in the teens in 20s (and teens in the Pime Barrens) have reached near 40 this afternoon. 20s are once again expected tonight.

There are no weather issues today, tonight, or Wednesday. More sunshine is expected tomorrow with little coud cover. Temperatures will reach into the lower 40s. A weak little front comes through during the afternoon, but there is no precipitation as it goes by.

It appears that we could see an area of light snow on Thursday, as a weak weather distance moves nearby. The tough part is figuring out where it happens but I think the risk is there to at least mention it. If everything breaks just right (or wrong), this could wind up being a coating to an inch type of situation.

Warmer air begins to move northeastward ahead of the next storm coming out of the Southern Plains. That storm brings rain here late Friday into Saturday morning. This system is moving out a bit faster so the bulk of the rain will be Friday night into Saturday morning. This is good news for the Jets, who play at home Saturday late afternoon. It could be quite breezy at times during the day Saturday, as this will be a fairly potent system. Showers look like they may linger into Saturday night or Sunday morning, but dry air will return at some point on Sunday. Then we will see a shot of colder air coming in early next week. The overall weather pattern is one where temperatures are trending near average with weak shots of cold air coming in every few days. With Christmas exactly two weeks away, we will be keeping an eye on this pattern closely.   -Geoff
