Long Island Lunchtime Temps Barely Back to 40 Degrees
We are nearing the midday hour here on Long Island on a day when the average high should be close to 60 or at least in the mid to upper 50s if you want to be reasonable. Today 45 may be a stretch in spite of a good deal of sunshine. It is a cold air mass that is over the Northeast US and add to that a wind that continues to remain busy at 20 to 30 mph with some higher gusts. The winds should ease somewhat later this afternoon and evening. Right now the satellite is cloud free along the coast but some high clouds are appearing to the west and also over the Great Lakes as the next weather system begins its move east.
US SATELLITE
We are still seeing some lake effect streamers on the regional radar which were quite impressive last night but they have died down some today. The odd echo is showing up on the radar to the north but this should disappear in short order.
Looking ahead to tonight we cloud up and during the morning hours on Friday between 5am to 10am we could see a rain or snow shower or two. Outside chance the ground gets whitened but that should be it. Then we will have clouds and maybe another rain shower with temperatures into the 50s.
During the early morning hours on Saturday we will see some rain develop that changes over to some snow Saturday morning however latest weather models have been trending southward from yesterday which puts Long Island into the northern edge of snow. We will continue to wait and see if this is going to be the final outcome which would be a minimal event at worst or if it winds up being something on the order of several slushy inches. Certainly if it turns out nothing happens I don’t think too many people will be upset. 50 to 75 inches of snow this winter and the fact that it is running so late is quite enough thank you. Sunday we will see some sunshine with highs in the 40s.
