Long Island Summer Weekend Sunday Better Than Saturday
Long Island Summer Weekend Sunday Better Than Saturday
With the number of summer weekends beginning to wind down to the final 4 it appears we may have to split this one in two. Right now Sunday looks like the better of the two weekend days provided that the next weather front that is now swinging into the Midwest moves through and keeps on moving. If it stalls out too close to out it might mean cloud issues for Sunday but we are going to be optimistic that this will not be the case.
Meanwhile we have Friday and Saturday to work through and the humidity levels will be on the rise the next 2 days. Friday a south southeast wind will be putting a check on temperatures and there will be clouds around mixing with the sun. No showers are forecast for Friday or most of Friday night so if you have outdoor plans go right ahead with them Temperatures Friday will reach the upper 70s to around or just over 80 degrees.
Saturday is the issue as the cold front takes its time moving through. I think we see two distinct rounds of downpours and thunderstorms. The first will be early Saturday morning from just before daybreak until about 9 or 10am and then a second round late in the afternoon. In between we should see clouds and some breaks of sun with temperatures reaching into the 80s.

Late afternoon weather models move the front through and high pressure builds in for Sunday. If this holds we will see plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures with highs in the middle 80s thanks to a northwest wind. The dry air should hold for Monday before the next chance for clouds and perhaps some showers on Tuesday. That depends on low pressure coming up from the south and how far north it gets.
Monday August 21st is the Solar Eclipse. Long Island will not be in the path of totality but it will get to about 75 percent coverage. JOESTRADAMUS HAS MORE ON THIS. Also here is a link to the National Weather Service website with more about the eclipse.
