March Weather Continues All Week
LONG ISLAND TEMPERATURES 2PM
When we look at temperatures across Long Island this afternoon, this would be something you might see a month from now in mid to late March. A northwest wind is bringing down cooler air but the temperatures are still running some 10 degrees above average for mid February. We are enjoying lots of sunshine with a nice northerly breeze. The satellite loop shows mainly clear skies from here west to the Mississippi river so the rest of today looks sunny and tonight skies will be clear with lows in the mid 20s to lower 30s. Radars should be nice and quiet through the day Tuesday.
Most of the moisture in the Midwest is heading northward but some will break away and move east on Tuesday as a weak weather system approaches. We should start Tuesday with sunshine but some clouds will probably move in later in the day and Tuesday night. The system is weak and the air behind it is as warm or warmer than the air ahead of it. Temperatures Tuesday will be in the 40s and then Wednesday with clouds and some sunshine we should reach the 50s. This sets us up for a very warm Thursday with a west wind and the potential of record highs. High temperatures Thursday will reach the 60s away from the ocean though it will be cooler as you head east.
THURSDAY’S FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES
The next chance for showers will come on Friday as a strong storm heads for the Great Lakes. This could set us up for the potential for showers and strong thunderstorms on Saturday though the cold ocean will play a role in whether the thunderstorms survive.
Still the chance is there. Temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s Friday and Saturday before the pattern begins to transition away from very warm temperatures to closer to average temperatures as we head into the last days of the month.
