Ocean Winds Holding Temperatures Down
Strong Cold Front Passes Tuesday
We can see that frontal boundary to the north setting up. Weather conditions on Long Island this afternoon are on the cool side thanks to that wonderful south wind. Temperatures made into the upper 50s to lower 60s and are basically holding there. It also doesn’t help much that the clouds are coming in from the northwest and limiting the amount of sunshine considerably.
Now going forward we will see clouds overnight and temperatures probably holding in the mid to upper 50s. Some showers are possible in the early morning hours as the showers on the regional radar begin to move to the southeast. Weather models differ on whether these showers hold together but the risk is there so we are including them in the forecast.
The timing of the front on Tuesday would suggest that Long Island would not be at risk for severe weather. The front passes through around midday which reduces any daytime heating. By mid afternoon temperatures could already be falling into the 40s but the timing and position of the front is critical. South and west of the front temperatures will be in the 70s to near 80.
New Jersey is at risk for severe weather on Tuesday but at the moment based on the timing of the front, Long Island would not be at risk for severe weather. However there will be rain moving in and a thunderstorm can’t be ruled out.
