Severe Drought Continues No Important Rain In Sight
With each passing day the severe drought continues and there is still no sign of any widespread rain for Long Island and particularly for Suffolk County. Since it would take at least 6 major rainfalls of 2 inches or more just to bring the deficit back to even, it is reasonable to say that even showers and thunderstorms that might occur from time to time over the next few days won’t even be a drop in the bucket.
We are enjoying a very nice day on Long Island with sunshine and low humidity. However there are clouds that will be coming in tonight. Satellite loop shows clouds to the west in the Ohio Valley along with an area of rain that will attempt to move eastward.
How far north is the big question with regards to the rain. Also the heaviest rain may wind up being to the west anyway. You can see the rain on the radar moving into Pennsylvania, The lead area may not make it but the second area back in Ohio probably will.
Rainfall forecasts through Thursday morning are under a quarter of an inch on the NAM model. When in a drought, you lean dry in forecasts and there is no reason to be more bullish than model forecasts.

Once that rain moves out we will go to clouds and some sun Thursday and there is just the chance for an isolated late downpour or thunderstorm. Friday looks quiet with clouds and some sun with highs in the middle 80s. The weekend offers chances for thunderstorms late Saturday and again late Sunday but late Sunday looks to be the greater risk. Much of the weekend should be okay with temperatures in the 80s.
