Snow Long Island Forecast Saturday Morning

Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Long Island for late tonight into Saturday morning. With respect to the snow forecast for Long Island we can say that nothing happens until after midnight tonight. Snow will develop during the early morning hours and there will be one solid burst of snow right before daybreak and then a change over to rain as temperatures warm. The question is whether that change over is delayed by an hour or so which could mean we finish closer to the higher end of the ranges then the lower.

I am covering for the possibility of some isolated higher amounts across Northwestern Suffolk County and Nassau County especially north of the Long Island Expressway where the cold air could hold on for a little bit longer. In the end everyone changes to rain and by tomorrow night temperatures will be in the 40s and wash all this away. For the Eastern half of Suffolk County I essentially left that the same.

By Sunday morning many areas could be close to 60 degrees before a cold front moves through and we get into another round of rain and falling temperatures Sunday afternoon. The rain should end in the evening followed by much colder air for later Sunday night and Monday morning. Temperatures by Monday morning will be in the low to mid 20s. I don’t expect a changeover back to snow  Sunday evening but there could be some icy spots developing Sunday night with leftover moisture freezing on some roadways.

Below are the National Weather Service forecast snow amounts for comparison to mine. They are a little lower as of this afternoon so we will see if they raise them a bit.
