Weekend Weather Update Long Island Rain Overnight
There is rain in the forecast for Long Island this weekend but the good news is that if everything plays according to plan that rain will fall overnight until about daybreak Saturday morning. The satellite loop shows moisture revving up to the southwest and radars are beginning to show downpours with a few thunderstorms developing to our southwest.
So far this summer there has been plenty of rain everywhere around Long Island. However Long Island is now abnormally dry again as much of the rains fell apart when they reached Nassau County and they barely even made it into Suffolk County. Rainfall amounts overnight are forecast to be up to an inch as long as these downpours hold together.
Once the downpours move out we may spend much of Saturday with just clouds and some breaks of sun. Late in the afternoon or early evening there is the chance for another short round of downpours or a thunderstorm. After that is done the rest of the weekend is fine as we will have plenty of sunshine for Sunday. Saturday’s temperatures will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s thanks to a wind off the ocean all day. Sunday will actually be warmer behind the front with sunshine and a northwest wind. Highs could reach the mid 80s with reasonable humidity. Sunday will be the better of the two days but Saturday may not be too bad if everything plays according to plan.
Monday August 21st we will have a total eclipse of the sun. While the eclipse will only be partially visible on Long Island you might be interested in going where you can watch the whole thing.
