For Long Island the weather this weekend looks pretty good. There is just one minor issue for Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening as to whether there will be a shower or thunderstorm. We also have a lot going in thie weekend and at the top of the list for Long Island is the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes. With regards to the forecast for the Belmont Stakes Small Storm Risk is how I see it.
This evening is nice outside with temperatures in the low to mid 70s. We have sunshine taking us to a nice sunset and then it will be nice and clear tonight and it should be Sunny into midday on Saturday at least.

There will be two disturbances pushing through on Satuday. The first at midday will be weakening as it moves east and when it moves across there may be nothing more than some clouds and a passing shower left with it. Then it will be okay until late afternoon when a second disturbance approaches. That does not look like a huge deal though there could be a thunderstorm with that when it goes through. Then again it could pass west or east of western Nassau County and miss Belmont Park entirely. Handicap for fast and firm. Even if it does downpour it will not last long and should not amount to much.

There are two arguments against thunderstorms Saturday and the first is that the air mass we are in is bone dry and it will be very dry through much of the day. The second is a wind off the ocean which often is a thunderstorm killer. As it is the southwest wind will keep temperatures in the 70s and over the east end and along the south shore beaches it will be in the upper 60s.
Sunday it is back to sunshine and it will be a warm dry day with temperatures in the lower 80s. Then another cool shot of air arrives Sunday night and Monday. We will have some sun and clouds Monday with highs just 70 to 75. No big storms are on the horizon for this week.
