Chilly Long Island Weather Through Thursday Warmer Into the Weekend

Tuesday October 18, 2022

Another round of chilly weather is underway and it comes on the backside of a cold front and upper trough that moved through overnight and this morning. The satellite loop shows the strong rotation in the Eastern Great Lakes which has hardly moved since yesterday and won’t move much today or Wednesday. The loop also shows some patchy clouds coming up from the southwest with clearer skies to the west. Eventually this will shift a little further east but until then we will see clouds with some breaks of sunshine in the mix and temperatures this afternoon will be in the mid to upper 50s.

At least the radars have quieted down and the morning rain is now gone and we should be dry for the remainder of the day and also for the remainder of this week. Skies tonight will be partly to mostly clear. While it will be on the cold side for this time of year, there will be enough of a breeze to keep us away from frosts or freezes overnight. Most lows will be in the upper 30s to around or just over 40.

We will see sunshine on Wednesday with most highs in the middle 50s and then we head down again to the upper 30s to the lower 40s. Thursday we will start seeing moderating temperatures as highs reach around 60 or so and we should be into the 60s Friday with sunshine. Right now the weekend is looking good as long as low pressure forecast to form offshore stays to the south long enough to keep it dry through Sunday.
