Downpours or a Thunderstorm Tonight Nice Dry Start On Long Island Monday
As we head into this evening we have a cold front approaching with some downpours and one or two thunderstorms in the mix. The Storm Prediction Center is not including Long Island in any severe weather risk area and in fact has lowered the risk to our west which is a positive. Clouds are around and we look for some scattered showers now into the early evening. Then between 8 and 11pm we will see a line of downpours and one or two thunderstorms approach and move east. The front moves offshore and Long Island weather conditions improve so that by morning skies will clear and lows will be in the low to mid 60s.
SATELLITE
Scattered showers are showing up on the Upton NY local radar. The regional radar shows a line of downpours and thunderstorms moving through central Pennsylvania and holding together for now. I’m expecting the line of storms to peak in intensity before it arrives here. Remember Long Island is usually where thunderstorms come to die and I think tonight’s line should be no different. At the very least storms will be weakening before they get here.
WEATHER RADAR
The first part of this week looks nice and dry with low humidity. Tonight’s cold front moves offshore and stalls to the east and south. A wave developing on the front should pass far enough east so that we avoid any issues from it. Monday will be mostly sunny. Highs will reach the upper 70s to near 80. Tuesday look for high clouds and some sun as the wave passes east but I think rain stays offshore. Highs will be mostly in the 70s.
This frontal boundary is going to be a forecast challenge all week as models all handle it differently in terms of the timing of waves. Since these waves are passing to the east we are shut off from deep tropical air so humidity won’t be getting out of hand. Wednesday looks mostly dry. Thursday brings a wave up the coast with some rain probable. Highs Wednesday will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s and Thursday’s highs will be in the 70s. Friday as the wave pulls out it should transition us to very warm and humid conditions next weekend.
