Long Island Always On The Edge of Warmth No Major Issues Into Midweek

The month of May occasionally brings warmer temperatures to Long Island but it does always seem to be the case that we are on the edge of the warmth that reaches NYC but just can’t seem to push all the way to the East End. It will will make into inland Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County but further east and south of Sunrise Highway the struggle is a daily one with the sea breeze.

The satellite shows some patchy strips of clouds and the radar is also picking up a few scattered showers in the area from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England but the are few and far between today. Look for no worse than partly sunny skies for today. While 80 is possible in Western Nassau county, most highs today will be in the 70s except for 60s at the shore and near 60 on the East End near the ocean.

The next few days we will deal with changeable sky conditions. Clouds will be around Monday along with a few showers in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be lower between the cloud cover and a wind off the ocean so look for Long Island highs to be mostly in the upper 60s and lower 70s except for 50s on the East End and along the South Shore beaches.

A cold front approaches Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and it seems that the front will try to pass early on in which case Wednesday will be a day of early leftover clouds and increasing sun with a bit of a breeze but no crazy wind. Highs will be in the 70s.

Late this week there are some questions regarding whether this front stalls and we deal  with a developing coastal low and rain Thursday night into Friday or we see a weaker profile with a less developed wave that passes to the south and east.
