Long Island Could See Rain Later Wednesday into Thursday

While we have been sitting in a lot of clouds today, the rain with the first of 3 waves of low pressure is passing by to the south and east. Look for the clouds to hang around tonight. Temperatures today topped out in the low to mid 70s which is almost 10 degrees below the average high for this time of year which is in the low to middle 80s (depending on location).  Lows tonight will be in the 60s.

Radar has been showing rain aloft to the south. Occasionally some of those echoes were close by but they are all shrinking away as the first wave passes to the east. To the south on the regional radar we are seeing rain in North Carolina and that is setting up for a move northward on Wednesday.

Clouds will continue on Wednesday and in fact will thicken up as low pressure moves northward up the coast and passing just east of New Jersey and south of Long Island. There won’t be much on the western side of this but there will be an east west band of heavy rain that will move through Long Island beginning late in the afternoon Wednesday and lasting into the early morning hours Thursday.

Temperatures Wednesday will be just into the 70s Rainfall amounts will be higher as you head east on Long Island where 1 inch plus rains are possible. There could even be a little upside here. The rain cuts off sharply just west of NYC.

Thursday and Friday both look like dry days but there is one more wave of low pressure that will move northward. It should stay offshore but clouds will be around Thursday into early Friday. Thursday highs will be in the 70s to around 80. Friday some sunshine should break through the clouds and it will start to turn very warm and the humidity will be rising. Highs will reach into the 80s away from the ocean. Then we head into a very warm and humid weekend with highs in the mid to even upper 80s Saturday and Sunday and just the outside chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm.
