Long Island Enjoy Best Weather As Spring Winds Down Father’s Day Weekend Forecast

It has been a picture perfect day of weather across Long Island and for that matter much of the East Coast from New England to Georgia. Not only do we have a ton of sunshine but the humidity levels are very low, running in a range of 25 to 35%. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 70s. Even the sea breeze is behaving today with winds mostly from the northwest keeping the ocean wind out. High pressure is very slowly moving eastward and it won’t be moving out to the east of us until Friday night. That means we are on cruise control for 2 more great days.

Radars won’t be showing anything until sometime late Saturday so look for clear skies tonight. Morning lows will be in the mid to upper 50s. Thursday look for another day of lots of sunshine. Highs will again be in the mid to upper 70s. Humidity levels will once again be between 25 and 35 percent.

Temperatures will inch higher on Friday reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s but  we will still have plenty of sunshine and the humidity will still be contained. Saturday begins a turn to more humid conditions as winds go southwest ahead of the next cold front. While the humidity does come up it doesn’t get out of control mainly because the air is so dry up and down the east coast. There simply isn’t enough time for dew points to climb much above the lower 60s. Satuday’s highs will reach the low and middle 80s with 70s along the shore and over the East End.

The lack of any true tropical moisture is going to likely limit any showers or thunderstorms that develop with a cold front. That front arrives Saturday evening. We will throw in the chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm just in case but models are very underwhelming with the upper support. Many of you mind wind up seeing nothing more than a few clouds.

Father’s Day we will be behind the front. The air will be warm behind it but not hot. Nor will we be humid on Sunday as dew points drop back into the 50s. We are forecasting sunshine for Sunday or certainly no worse than partly sunny skies. It should be a fine day for any outdoor activities. Highs will be in the lower 80s with 70s along the shore and over the East End. It certainly will be a better day than Mother’s Day was.
