Long Island Flash Flood Watch Severe Weather Risk Monday
After a weekend of struggling with clouds and temperatures in the 70s, a warm front will go by overnight. Rain and thunderstorms to the west and north are showing up on the satellite and radars this evening this will not be a problem here overnight other than a passing shower or downpour. Lows will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s as we set up for a warmer and more humid Monday.

WEATHER RADAR
Monday will be an uncomfortable with clouds giving way to partly sunny skies highs will be in the low to mid 80s. Then as today’s front moving north becomes tomorrows front moving south, we will see some showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has Long Island at a marginal risk for severe weather.
The bigger issues however will be rainfall. Thanks to the severe weather of last week and Tropical Storm Elsa rains, the ground is saturated. There was little chance for any drying this weekend with high humidity and limited sun. Rainfall amounts in the last 7 days over Long Island totaled 6 inches in some places in Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County.
The watch cuts off at the William Floyd Parkway at least for now but as rainfall amounts on the East End were far less and the ground is not as saturated. An additional inch or two of rain will be enough to cause run off and local flooding so we will need to watch the progress of developing storms Monday afternoon. Tuesday has a stalled front just to our west and south and that likely means clouds and temperatures in the 70s to near 80. We could see a shower or thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon and evening. After that we transition to very warm and humid conditions Wednesday through Friday. Highs will these three days will be in the mid 80s to near 90 (cooler at the shore). We will leave in the chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorms. The next cold front of importance probably arrives over the weekend with additional shower and thunderstorm chances.
