Long Island Memorial Day Holiday Weekend Enjoy Saturday
Long Island Memorial Day Holiday Weekend Enjoy Saturday
Regarding the Long Island Memorial Day Holiday weekend enjoy Saturday because we will see a cloudy cooler Sunday & Monday thanks to a cold front and an onshore flow that develops. Today however is beautiful with lots of sunshine and hardly a cloud in the sky. Temperatures are in the upper 70s to around 80. No weather issues will impact Long Island through the daytime Saturday with a gradual uptrend in temperatures.
US SATELLITE
The satellite loop shows Long Island inside a large dry air mass that is moving southeast from the Great Lakes. To the south across the Carolinas we can see the frontal boundary with showers and thunderstorms from there south. There won’t be much change in this for the next 2 days.
Friday will be another sunny day with highs in the low to mid 80s with local sea breezes mainly right along the immediate coast. Saturday will be very warm with sunshine into the afternoon with highs in the 80s. During the evening we will watch for the possibility of a downpour or a thunderstorm as a cold front approaches. Most of the day should be rain free and it is the only real beach day for the holiday weekend.
NAM MODEL SUNDAY AFTERNOON MAY 27, 2017
The NAM model illustrates the problem for Sunday with a stalled front to our south and high pressure to the northeast in the Canadian Maritimes. We will see some passing showers on Sunday and again on Monday but I don’t think either day is an all day and night washout. Temperatures Sunday and Monday will likely have a tough time getting out of the 60s. Meanwhile odds are growing that there will be a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend with a threat to the Central & Eastern Gulf coast. For more on this see the latest JOESTRADAMUS post on the tropical disturbance in the NW Caribbean.
