Long Island Onshore Flow Showers Thunderstorms Friday Sunshine Windy Saturday
It was quite a nice day on Long Island with a busy northwest wind, no sea breeze and temperatures that reached the 70 degree mark in many locations. When the ocean wind is turned off temperatures respond nicely. Heading into Thursday the satellite loop shows Long Island in the clear for awhile tonight though there are some high clouds to the west that will move in and out tonight. We should start Thursday with some sunshine and temperatures tonight will head down to the mid to upper 40s. There are no showers on the radar anywhere close and we probably won’t see anything rain wise until perhaps around daybreak Friday as a warm front moves up from the south.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Thursday our winds going around to the south. Add to this arriving high clouds that will increase during the afternoon and you a looking at a day where temperatures will be held back with highs just into the 60s and coastal areas will likely not get into the 50s as well as the East End.
Thursday night into Friday morning the warm front developing to our south moves northward. These are always tricky to figure as they sometimes get stuck over or just to our south. I think this one eventually gets through with a few showers around daybreak Friday when the front passes. Then we go to clouds, some sun, a south wind and a cold front coming in from the west. Highs will be in the 60s. We will probably see some showers and possibly a thunderstorm Friday evening into Friday night as the front passes.
Everything keeps moving and Saturday brings us a day much like today with gusty winds, sunshine, and highs mostly in the 60s. Unfortunately the next weather system is right on our doorstep with clouds coming in Saturday night and some rain for Sunday at least into the early afternoon. With a low passing to our south and an onshore wind temperatures might have a real tough time Sunday and not get out of the low or mid 50s. It might actually stay in the 40s while it is raining.
You will notice that the train of systems continues next week with a nice day on Monday before another warm front sets up to our south and some rain or showers come in for Monday night into Tuesday. There is a chance we could see the wave train break late next week with a couple of warmer days coming but that onshore flow is going to haunt us at least into Wednesday. Our typical spring of fast moving systems and dealing with the onshore flow continues for awhile longer at least.
