Long Island Rain Overnight But Big Rains Were North And West.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH 2022 6PM
20-25 miles north of Long Island we saw 4 to 8 inch rainfalls across Southern Connecticut. That area of heavy rain basically cut off in Long Island South leaving Long Island getting the least of anyone in the NY, NJ, CT tri state area. As of 6pm Islip Mac Arthur Airport has only gotten .33 inches. Farmingdale as of 6pm had .41 inches. It’s better than nothing but not much. There were 1 inch plus amounts along the North Shore of Long Island mainly in Nassau County and Northwest Suffolk County. Westhampton Beach has .40 inches so far and Montauk has gotten almost 3/4 inch.
We are going to need some luck getting the forecast rain amounts for overnight. Given that it seems for Long Island at least, there is a boiler plate over it. A wave of low pressure is now off the New Jersey coast and radars are showing some rain backing in westward from off the ocean. Sometimes we get lucky with a set up like this and get a solid soaking rain overnight so we will be watching radars and see what plays out. However flash flood watches are now discontinued.

Wednesday is going to be a cloudy day with a low to the south, a high to the northeast, and an onshore flow. Watch for a few showers until the low can push further southeast and the moisture field begins to thin out. Highs will be in the lower 70s. Slowly improving weather conditions should come Thursday with clouds and some developing sunshine. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Friday looks better with more sunshine and that should take highs to the upper 70s to maybe close to 80 in a few spots. The wind off the ocean will keep temperatures lower along the South Shore and over the East End. Humidity levels will be dropping and the weekend is looking good with sunshine Saturday and some sunshine Sunday. Highs both days will be between 75 and 80 degrees.
