Long Island Remains In An April Cold Pattern
Spring on Long Island is never a fun time of year. Even in the warmest patterns, the 40-45 degree ocean puts a solid cap on warm weather as the sea breeze comes flying in during the afternoon especially over Suffolk County and the south shore of Nassau. Add to that a cold pattern overall over the Eastern US and you can bet that warm weather days will be few and far between going forward.
US SATELLITE
Tonight’s satellite picture shows a developing coastal low off the North Carolina that will begin its exit out to the northeast overnight. The radars are showing some precipitation over southern New Jersey east to just off the south shore. It is all moving straight east and while the storm will cause snow to bend back westward overnight it will remain offshore. Skies will likely clear out late tonight with lows in the mid 20s to near 30.
Sunday is going to be a cold breezy day with no worse than partly sunny skies but temperatures will be no higher than the mid 40s which is a good 10-15 degrees below where we should be. Then Sunday night will be a fireplace night with clear skies and lows by Monday morning in the 20s and some cold spots in Suffolk County could break below 20 if winds drop off.
Monday look for sunshine and some arriving clouds with highs in the 40s. The next weather system for Tuesday into Wednesday doesn’t look like any big deal at all with clouds and maybe a few passing showers. We should at least get back into the 50s. Another front comes through late week with a few showers. Then we get a chance for a warm up next weekend with Saturday having a shot for at least the 60s if (a big if) a warm front can get through and the south wind behaves. The week of April 16th sees a blocking pattern setting up in Canada which means another week of below average temperatures.
