Long Island Sees Scattered Showers This Evening,

Slow Improvement Through Thursday

Autumn is in full swing on Long Island and it has been another day of chilly temperatures in the 50s, sunshine that self destructs to clouds, and radars that are picking up on pop up showers that are moving southward from New England and Upstate NY. Going into this evening look for some pop up showers scattered around but they should disappear after sunset. Skies will likely partially clear out and morning lows Tuesday will be in the chilly 40s. There should be enough of a wind to keep temperatures uniform. Tuesday we should see more sun and fewer clouds though there will be patches of cloudiness during the day. There is still the chance for the odd shower but we may get away with not seeing any rain. Tuesday highs will reach near or just over 60 degrees in most places.

The improvement trend should continue Wednesday as an upper trough over the Eastern US finally pulls out to the east. We should see no worse than partly sunny skies Wednesday with highs reaching the lower 60s. Thursday looks to be the best day of the week with sunshine and a southwest wind. Highs will reach the middle 60s in most places and some inland spots in Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County could see upper 60s to around 70.

Friday is a day of increasing clouds with a south wind and highs in the 60s. Showery rains will develop in the afternoon and evening as moisture comes up from the south and a cold front heads east from the Ohio Valley. Showery rains will continue Friday night into early Saturday afternoon before the front moves offshore. Then it will turn windy and colder. Saturday highs will be into the 60s before the front passes. Sunday sets up to be a windy and chilly day with some sun and then clouds with the risk for a passing shower or two. Sunday highs will only reach the low to mid 50s at best and we will see rather chilly temperatures Sunday night into Monday morning.
