Long Island Should Escape Extreme Heat Thursday Highs Into the 90s

Long Island is wating for the next round of heat but the good news is that ocean is going help matters in this regard. In the meantime we have struggled with clouds and temperatures in the 70s all day. These clouds will get out of the way tonight as skies partially clear. Lows by morning will be in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Tuesday we will see sunshine for much of the day. Most highs on Long Island will reach 85 to 90 degrees. Temperatures will be cooler at the shore as we will have an ocean wind. A weather front will move through in the evening and we will throw in the slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm.

Wednesday we will get a slight break in the humidity as dew points drop to the lower 60s or even near 60 so it should be only slightly humid. Wednesday will feature sunshine with highs 85 to near 90. Again local sea breezes will keep the shore areas a little cooler.

Thursday is the hottest day of the week however the extreme temperatures in Northeastern NJ to NYC might reach Northern Nassau and Northwest Suffolk where highs will likely reach the middle 90s but elsewhere it looks like low 90s should do it and for the East End mid to upper 80s is forecast. The southwest wind off the water will cool things just enough to prevent temperatures from going higher. Friday highs will be in the 80s with clouds around and the chance for thunderstorms with a cold front coming through. Saturday could be like today with some rain early and then leftover clouds with highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Then some heat and humidity could return on Sunday.
