Long Island Still Battles With Pesky Low To Northeast
That coastal low that brought the Sunday rains and the Monday clouds is still lurking about southeast of Cape Cod. It is close enough that it has put Long Island in the back edge of the cloud cover though there are no rain bands showing up anywhere close. Latest loops are showing some breaks in the cloud cover so we should go partly sunny this afternoon as the clouds thin out.
SATELLITE
Radars should remain quiet this afternoon and while there may be a few pop up thunderstorms inland we do not expect them to reach the coast. Temperatures this afternoon will top out in the lower 80s away from the shore and mid to upper 70s over the East End.
WEATHER RADAR
We have a very warm and humid night ahead with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Wednesday begins a stretch of heat and humidity. Inland Nassau and Northwest Suffolk County should see highs reach the upper 80s to near 90 Wednesday. Temperatures will be cooler as you head toward the south shore and over the East End. Again we have the chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm inland Wednesday but the coast should be quiet.
Thursday will probably wind up being the hottest day of the summer season for Long Island. Wind direction has kept Long Island away from temperatures much above 90 but we should see Thursday highs of 90 to 95 with cooler temperatures confined to the shore areas and also the East End but even here temperatures will be in the 80s. Severe weather risk appears Thursday to our west and we will include the chance for a late day shower or thunderstorm. Friday will be the last hot day of this stretch with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and the chance for late thunderstorms. There might be severe weather risk to deal with Friday however for now the best chances for severe weather will be to our west.
A cold front passes and the weekend should bring some humidity relief as high pressure slowly builds into New England and eventually this brings us into a more north or northeast flow. The weekend is looking dry with temperatures in the 80s.
