Long Island Still Melting Snow First Weekend of Spring
Long Island Still Melting Snow First Weekend of Spring
Even though it is now late March and the sun angle is increasing every day, melting a foot plus of snow is no easy task. Snow cover continues to diminish but there is still of it out there this weekend. At least the weather outlook for Long Island has no accumulating snow in it for the next week (which is as far as I go as far as speculation). We are starting today with sunshine and it is rather chilly outside with temperatures in the 30s but we should reach the 40s both today and Sunday. The only issues are two upper air disturbances that will move through. One late this afternoon will produce clouds and the chance for a rain or snow shower. The other will move through Sunday morning and do the same thing. Other than that we have rather quiet conditions for the first weekend of Spring.
US SATELLITE
Today on the satellite and regional radar we are watching a storm system passing by well to our south. This system will have little to no impact here but it will develop into a gale center northeast of Bermuda in a couple of days and it is likely to kick up the surf a bit going forward.
Next week starts chilly but dry for Monday into Tuesday. Monday should be mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 40s. Tuesday we will see sun and arriving clouds as milder air tries to arrive but we will be fighting off a northeast wind for awhile. Highs again will be in the 40s to perhaps near 50. Wednesday we should be into the 50s with some sun and clouds. The next chance for rain will come late Thursday into Friday as a cold front moves through and a wave develops on that front. After that Easter Weekend is looking dry and a bit on the chilly side.
