Long Island Struggling To Warm Up

Springtime on Long Island is not exactly heaven. The cold ocean keeps us colder longer deep into the spring. Bad enough we have a cold air mass and had a very brutal March as far as snow is concerned. Now we have to deal with a 40 degree ocean and anytime the wind is coming from an ocean direction we can be 20 to 30 degrees colder than everyone else. Today at least everyone is chilly as high clouds continue to increase and that will keep afternoon highs just in the 40s. The wind from off the water probably will send those temperatures down closer to the lower end of the 40s than the higher end.

Clouds have already moved in and to the west we are seeing showers on the regional radar moving into Central Pennsylvania. Most of those showers should go by to our north or at least weaken before they get here. We will include the chance for passing showers overnight though they shouldn’t amount to much and temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s so there won’t be any icing issues to deal with.

Wednesday we will struggle with clouds and the chance for a few passing showers. Temperatures are going to struggle again with a warm front to the south and an onshore wind. 40s to near 50 should do it for highs.

THURSDAY’S FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES

Long Island Struggling To Warm Up

Thursday we have a shot to hit upper 50s at least in Northern Nassau & Northwest Suffolk County but this will hinge on clouds and the wind direction. To the east across Central & Eastern Suffolk County good luck getting out of the 40s. Some showers will arrive Thursday night into Friday before weather conditions improve. We probably stand a better chance Friday of hitting mid 50s to near 60 if the sun can break through the clouds in the afternoon and a more favorable wind direction from the west or northwest.

Passover Easter Weekend looks to be in the chilly upper 40s and lower 50s both days. Weather fronts will be an issue with the next one approaching Easter Sunday although there are timing issues regarding this. We will try and resolve these issues later today. Meanwhile if you are looking for a warm up next week don’t count on it as JOESTRADAMUS tells us in his latest long range post.
