Long Island Temperatures Struggling This Afternoon
Long Island temperatures are struggling this afternoon thanks to the cloud line setting up right along the South Shore. You can see on the satellite loop it is a solid overcast from Long Island North while sunshine has broken out just to our south and west and that is impacting temperatures in a big way.
Temperatures as of 1pm are having a tough time around the 60 degree mark and it doesn’t help matters that there is a southerly component to the wind. From NYC west and south however the sun is doing a good job heating up the air and temperatures there are in the 70s and in Southern New Jersey as of 1pm temperatures are in the 70s to near 80 degrees. Last night’st warm front is having a tough time getting completely through the region so Long Island is running out of time to get temperatures up to the 70 degree mark.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Radars locally at least are quiet though to the south across Virginia and North Carolina some showers and thunderstorms are starting to pop up. The marine layer should keep showers out of here though they could get close in Central New Jersey later this evening. Those should stay to our south.
Tuesday is going to be another day where temperatures will struggle thanks to an ocean wind and an approaching cold front. Clouds are going to be around and as a cold front arrives late in the day there could be some late day showers. Temperatures are going to have a tough time getting out of the 50s. Sunshine should be back on Wednesday but it will be another day of temperatures in the 50s as chilly air from a high to the northwest builds in. Thursday we will have another day of struggling temperatures with highs just in the 50s thanks to a wind going around to the south. You just can’t win around here in the spring.
That south wind will be gusty on Friday ahead of a cold front and low pressure over the Great Lakes and a high out to the east in the Atlantic Ocean. Showers with the front will move through Friday night. Weather conditions improve on Saturday but clouds return Sunday and a chilly rain with a northeast wind could develop late in the day or Sunday night. No warm weather is in the cards this week it seems.
