Long Island To See A Mostly Dry 4th of July Long Weekend
Severe Weather Risks Sunday & Monday
One thing that we will not have this weekend is 90 degree heat on Long Island. Temperatures are actually going to be a little cooler than average and you can thank the south wind which will be in play at least into Sunday before it backs more to the southwest Monday and Tuesday. Today we will be dealing with some hazy skies thanks to wildfire smoke from Canada but that should start to ease Saturday.
The south wind will keep temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s for highs this afternoon. It will be in the lower 70s along the south shore coast as well as over the East End. Skies should be no worse than partly sunny in spite of some haze. No thunderstorms are forecast today. Dew points will be coming up today especially in Suffolk County but less so in Western Nassau. Radars should remain quiet.

As for the weekend we will probably have a thunderstorm free Saturday. Skies should be no worse than partly sunny. We are going to leave thunderstorms out of the forecast for Saturday as they should stay well to the west and north. Once again the south wind will hold temperatures down and highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s except lower 70s at the shore.
Sunday we will start to see a cold front to the northwest move southeastward albeit slowly. It may be close enough for the chance for some late day thundertorms. The Storm Prediction Center has Long Island on the edge of a marginal risk for severe weather. The south wind continues Sunday so that might keep strong thunderstorms from reaching Long Island. Most of the day should be fine with the risk for storms in the late afternoon and evening. Highs again will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s with cooler readings at the beaches.
Monday the front edges even closer and it should move through Monday evening. This leaves us again with a partly sunny day and the risk for thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. The wind turns more southwest so highs inland will reach into the 80s with 70s along the coast. Tuesday July 4th could very well turn out to be a dry day all day with no thundertorms in the forecast. For now we are optimistic with sunshine in the forecast for Tuesday. 4th of July highs will reach 80 to 85 with 70s along the shore. Overall the weekend should be fine most of the time and no 90 degree weather is forecast anytime soon.
