Long Island Weather Showers Late Tuesday No Major Storms Ahead

The last 2 weeks were tough on Long Island with coastal flooding from what became Tropical Storm Melissa and then came last Wednesday night’s major storm that produced wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph and ripped up trees and downed some powerlines. There is nothing like this in the cards for this week. It is shaping up to be rather uneventful overall with 2 rounds of showers to deal with. One will come later Tuesday into Tuesday night as a cold front comes through. Another cold front comes through late Friday and Friday night and there might be a shower or two with that. Otherwise it is calm seasonal late October weather that will lead you to spend time outdoors and enjoy the fall color.

On the satellite picture this evening we can see well defined low clouds hugging the outline of the coast from Southern New England to Delaware and some of those clouds have started moving inland in Coastal and Southern New Jersey. You can expect those clouds to come in over Long Island tonight with a light east wind. Most lows will be in the low to mid 50s but there will be 40s in the cold spots in Central and Eastern Suffolk County while skies remain clear.

Tuesday will be all about clouds and there could be a few scattered showers or some drizzle around. The wind from off the ocean will likely keep temperatures in the 50s to just barely back to 60. Then as a cold front now in the Ohio and Tennessee Valley moves eastward, we will likely see showers here Tuesday evening and night. The showers should be done before day break. Rainfall amounts will be in the quarter to half inch range.

Wednesday sunshine returns  and it continues on Thursday with highs both days in the 60s. Then another cold front arrives on Friday. This one looks weaker than the one for Tuesday so we should see clouds and maybe a couple of scattered showers. Highs Friday will be in the 60s. The weekend should bring some sunshine back for both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the 60s. It is the last weekend of the month of October and the weather pattern is calming down just as we head into peak fall color. Enjoy.
