Long Island is drying out this morning after a soaking Monday evening. Once again falling during an inopportune time, rainfall amounts of 1 – 1.25″ saturated roadways during the PM commute.

As the storm system pulls away this morning, it is bringing snow to parts of upstate New York. Not a worry for us, but colder air is surging in and will remain in place for the rest of the week. Today’s highs will be in the mid 40s, but it will feel colder – more like the 30s – with blustery conditions.
Skies will feature varying amounts of sun and clouds through Friday, with some days brighter than others. The weekend will bring a few rain chances, but assuming the timing of these next few weather systems stays the same, it may not be that bad. The first one arrives on Friday night in the form of a weak shortwave trough. That will bring light rain that should end by Saturday morning. Any sun on Saturday would quickly fade back behind clouds and a more potent rain is likely Saturday night into Sunday morning. A brief warm period will kick in Sunday through Monday as temperatures jump back to the 50s.
Looking at the long term forecast, a stronger front will move through early next week and set temperatures back down to below seasonable levels. Cold air looks to remain in place through the first week of December, so I will be the lookout for any potential storms.
