Very Warm Humid August Dog Days Long Island Weekend

Long Island is still close enough to the old frontal boundary that we are still struggling with leftover clouds this afternoon but skies have cleared out to the west across New Jersey so it won’t be much longer before we see some sunshine developing from west to east later this afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 70s. Parts of Eastern Long Island had some showers earlier but those are mostly gone so it is a matter of patience as we wait for the clearing line to arrive.

Radars won’t be doing much if anything at all from now into Saturday as this frontal boundary degenerates and disappears and high pressure from the Western Atlantic builds into the East Coast. Look for clear skies tonight with most lows in the 60s to near 70. Friday will be a day of sunshine and the humidity will be coming up as will the temperatures. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s but it will be cooler at the shore.

Saturday will be a very warm and humid day on Long Island with sunshine and some arriving clouds. A low with a weak upper air disturbance will be moving northeast up the coastal plain Saturday and then passes south of Long Island Saturday night into Sunday morning while a backdoor cold front heads southward and weakens. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 70s at the shore to some middle 80s inland. We could see some downpours or a thunderstorm overnight into early Sunday morning and then the sun should come back with very warm and humid conditions and highs in the 80s.

Next week is rather straight forward in that we have a ridge along the East Coast and little chance for any frontal passage until late in the week at the earliest. So for Long Island it is a week to think about the beach or the pool as each day will be very warm to hot and humid with sunshine and just a small chance (if any) for a pop up shower or thunderstorm. Each day highs will be in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees inland and in the 70s to near 80 at the beaches. The Dog Days of August are here!
