SPRING BACKS OFF THE NEXT FEW DAYS, BIGGER WEEKEND CHANGES

What a day! Much of Long Island climbed all the way into the 60s this afternoon, with brilliant blue skies. It felt great, and I hope everyone got a chance to take advantage of it. We may get back to 60 later this week, but unfortunately we are coming back to earth for the next two days.

Highs on Wednesday will barely reach 40 degrees – normal for this time of year but a far cry from today. Clouds will increase as well and rain will arrive Wednesday night, lasting into Thursday morning. Highs on Thursday will again be in the lower 40s.

We’ll get a break in the action before more showers come in Thursday night into early Friday. On Friday we should see some clearing by the afternoon, and it will also be much milder with temperatures in the 50s to around 60. They will be very short-lived as this winter roller coaster continues.

On Friday night our colder air mass catches up with us. We will fall all the way into the 20s by Saturday morning, and it will be blustery as well. Both Saturday and Sunday will be dry, bright, and cold (30s both days). The general pattern will continue into next week. I am keeping an eye on our next system, which should be arriving on Tuesday. This super early storm track looks to be to our south, but could of course come further north and is something to watch in the days ahead.

Today may conjure up dreams of winter packing it in and spring arriving early, but I am not ready to say it will be so. We have 3 weeks of February and an entire month of March to go. While our patterns have not been favorable to big snows this winter, they can change in the wink of an eye. Not to mention, we have gotten lucky on a few occasions. I say fasten your seat belts and prepare for more up and downs over the second half of winter.     –Geoff
