Tornado Confirmed Mattituck Long Island
Late this afternoon a severe thunderstorm formed over Long Island Sound that intensified and moved over the North Fork. The storm peaked over Mattituck where an EF-0 tornado was confirmed. Damage was confined to trees and some winds were estimated at 70 mph. Lightning struck a home and set it ablaze destroying it. Details here from the Suffolk Times.
Long Island did see some rain however it did nothing to dent the severe drought conditions over Suffolk County. Rainfall deficits are over a foot in some places especially over Central and Eastern Suffolk County.
Satellite loop shows some showers and thunderstorms tonight moving across Pennsylvania. Whether they survive the night remains to be seen but over the next several days we will see some showers and thunderstorms popping up from time to time and place to place. Some of the rain could be heavy in some storms. The rest of the time and the majority of the time will be very warm and humid right into Saturday with highs each day in the mid to upper 80s and nighttime lows in the 70s.
Keep an eye on the radars over the next few days. Over the course of the next 3 or 4 days some areas could pick up a couple of inches of rain though amounts across Long Island will vary widely.
