Warm Front Pushes Through Long Island 70s This Afternoon
We have finally caught a bit of luck. The warm front is weak and shallow and we are seeing it edging through with sunshine breaking out as evidenced on the satellite picture this afternoon. Clouds however are holding tough over the East End. 1pm temperatures have reached 70 in many areas however notice that Montauk is stuck at 52 and most East End temperatures are holding in the 50s at least for now. Maybe with some luck the cloud line will push a little further east and north in the next few hours. Winds still have an ocean component to them so the upside from here is limited. None the less the sun is out and that is a most welcomed development.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
The warm front lying to the north means that showers moving across Connecticut & Massachusetts will remain to our north. However this evening we are going to see a weak cold front approach and that might trigger off a downpour or possibly a thunderstorm sometime this evening.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
This next cold front like the last one will settle to our south so it is back to an onshore flow for Friday and another warm front pushing northward. This one will probably not move through so that means we will be back in clouds and temperatures will be in the mid 50s coast to near 60 inland. There is a chance for a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow evening as yet another cold front moves through and then that front will stall to our south. There will be some showers Friday night lingering into Saturday morning as the first of two waves goes by. Saturday is unsettled because as the first wave moves out and showers end early Saturday morning, we will be fighting clouds all day though some breaks of sun are possible with highs in the 60s.
Wave number 2 arrives on Sunday with rain and there is the potential for some heavier downpours. This could be a 1 to 2 inch rain producer as low pressure passes to our south. Saturday is definitely the better of the two weekend days if you have to pick one. Though not perfect at least Saturday should be dry once morning showers come to an end. We should be able to enjoy a dry day or possibly 2 Monday into Tuesday before any other systems threaten. If the block to the north weaken enough we might be able to string 3 days of rain free weather though clouds are likely to be an issue Tuesday if the flow goes onshore again.
