Winter Storm Warning Long Island Sunday Nice Saturday Sunshine Ahead of Snow

We have barely gotten the 12 to 18 inches of snow from Monday Tuesday out of the way and now we have our second Winter Storm Warning for Long Island in less than a week. We can say from the get go that this will NOT turn out to be anything like what went through here Monday into Tuesday.

Snow fall forecasts are much more reasonable and should in general average about 6 inches or so from start to finish. The National Weather Service is a little higher than that, but I would regard that as maximum upside here if every flake were to stick.

At least we have a nice day to enjoy on this Saturday. The satellite is only showing a few patchy clouds and the radars are quiet locally with snow showers confined to the usual areas in the lands of lake effect. We should see sunshine for most of the day with highs in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.

We cloud up tonight with lows in the low to mid 30s. Snow arrives Sunday morning sometime after 7am. It might briefly start as rain before it goes to all snow. Then it just continues into the afternoon. Low pressure from North Carolina will move northeast and then start moving rapidly out to sea late in the day. Snow will end from west to east between 3 and 5 pm. This gives us a limited time for snow to accumulate and it will depend on whether the models are correct in developing some bands of heavy snow.

More winter weather is in store for next week. First we have Tuesday which is an upper air disturbance and a weak front that goes by with some rain or snow showers again. Then it appears that we could be setting up for a snow and ice event come late next week. More details to follow on both these systems in the coming days. I believe in dealing with one system at a time. Those of you on Patreon, we will discuss this later today on my exclusive members only Weather in 10 video.
