BLIZZARD WARNING LONG ISLAND

Blizzard Warning is now in effect for Nassau & Suffolk Counties for today. One foot or more of snow is forecast. The National Weather Service snow forecast maps for Long Island and nearby are updated below. Generally it will be about a 1 foot plus snow with highest amounts for Central and Eastern Suffolk County. Snow will fall heavy at times into this afternoon at rates of 2 to 3 inches an hour before ending from west to east during the mid to late afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 20s. Winds will gust past gale force. Visibility will be down to near zero through the morning. To top it off some thunderstorms are possible.  Needless to say if you don’t have to travel today, don’t! The good news is this storm is moving along at a pretty quick rate so while a foot to a foot and a half is alot of snow, it is roughly half of what we got during the 2/8/2013 when we saw 30-35 inches in some places. There simply isn’t enough time for that as the storm center is moving to the east off the Maryland coast at a pretty fast clip.
