Holiday Weekend Forecast Long Island Looks Great
The first holiday weekend of the New Year is upon us and the holiday weekend forecast for Long Island looks great if you are planning to spend it locally. We are in a sweet spot through early next week as there are 2 major and one minor storm on the satellite loop and none are going to have a direct or an indirect effect on our weather. The satellite loop shows lots of dry air around much of the Eastern US with nothing more than a few clouds that may pass through from time to time.
Radars will be quiet until further notice. The next chance of any showers won’t be until Wednesday of next week at the earliest and even that doesn’t appear to be anything exciting to worry about.
Holiday Weekend Forecast Highs Saturday through Monday
Saturday’s highs will reach the low to mid 50s. Now there will be a sea breeze that will develop along the shore and over the Eastern half of Suffolk county that will take temperatures back into the 40s on Saturday. Sunday the sea breeze will probably be limited to the immediate coast so highs should reach the mid to upper 50s. A weak cold front passes through Sunday with little moisture.
Monday will be noticeably cooler as high pressure builds down from Southeastern Canada so highs will just be in the middle 40s but there will still be plenty of sunshine.
As far as cold weather and snow is concerned it appears the pattern will stay milder than average all next week. Long Island snowfalls for the season total 30-33 inches which makes this the 5th consecutive year of above average snowfall. This is the first time that has happened since records have been kept at Brookhaven National Labs.
