Cloudy Raw Chilly Day Better Weather Ahead
We are stuck in clouds and a chilly ocean wind this afternoon and into this evening as low pressure is passing by to our south. A cold front has passed through and lies across Southern New Jersey back into Northern Virginia. It is along this boundary that the low will move along. Temperatures are in the 40s and we will likely sit there for the rest of the day with lots of clouds into the first part of tonight.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
The regional radar shows an east west band of rain across Southern Pennsylvania moving eastward. Overhead on the regional and local radar is some light precipitation that is mostly aloft though some sprinkles are occasionally making it down to your car windshield. The steady rain to the south which might have a few snowflakes mixed in on the northern flank could touch us briefly this evening but amounts will be minimal.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Once the low passes we should see improving weather conditions tonight though it will be cold as skies slowly clear. By morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. The next two days will see some sunshine but temperatures will be in the chilly 40s.
WARMUP BEGINS THURSDAY BUT BEWARE THE OCEAN WIND
Thursday the high moves offshore near or just to our south which should allow temperatures to go higher with some sun and clouds. There is a weakening cold front coming down from the north Thursday with a few showers. The question is whether those showers survive as the front will be weakening and Stalling as it approaches. This should send temperatures into the 50s Thursday but how high will depend on how much sun.
The front will stall and then back northward on Friday but the issue here is the south wind that will likely develop This will mean some breaks of sunshine but as temperatures head into the 60s just to the west, Long Island temperatures will be struggling against a south wind off the 40 degree ocean.
Such is Long Island’s battle with the spring season. South winds are temperature killers. By Saturday with the wind more from the southwest we should be able to push temperatures up into the lower 60s away from the ocean and there should be some sunshine and clouds. Sunday brings another cold front with the chance for a few showers late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. As long as the front keeps moving we could see improving weather conditions Sunday afternoon. That is the early look for the first weekend of April.
