It was definitely another day in the steam bath on Long Island with highs in the 80s and the occasional downpour that hit some spots but missed others. As far as the satellite loops and radar loops this evening are concerned this evening most of the downpours and thunderstorms appear to be west and north of Long Island and moving either westward or southwestward. There is some risk between now and about 7pm for a downpour or two to pop up but after that it should just be another very warm tropical night with lows in the low to mid 70s. There should be no weather issues for any of the fireworks shows going on around Long Island so enjoy. The only downside is the high humidity that just won’t go away.

Satellite & radar loops show thunderstorms and downpours to the west and north of Long Island and due to light easterly winds in the upper atmosphere, they are either moving westward or southwestward instead of the usual east or northeast motion.

No changes the next 2 days. Thursday is another day of tropical humidity and pop up downpours or a thunderstorm with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Friday a cold front arrives with widespread thunderstorms followed by a beautiful air mass for the weekend with sunshine and low humidity. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 70s to near 80 and Sunday’s highs will be in the lower 80s. Most importantly the humidity will be gone! Beach weather will be terrific this weekend so do take advantage of the mainly sunny conditions.
