Long Island Weekend Forecast
Another summer weekend has arrived and we have a flash flood watch in effect for Long Island for at least into Sunday morning and it will likely get extended into next week. A rather wet weather pattern is setting up in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic States for the 3rd time since mid July. This trough that is developing along the Appalachians is the furthest east of three so I think that puts Long Island at a greater risk for downpours and heavy rains this time around. However bear in mind that with summer downpours timing and duration is always a difficult thing to predict. There will be periods where it won’t be raining and other times where it could be raining rather hard.
EASTERN SATELLITE LOOP
This evening there are no serious weather issues other than clouds. It was another very warm day with highs in the mid to upper 80s. We may not see those kind of numbers for awhile with clouds and downpours dominating the scene through at least Tuesday. There are some pop up downpours on the radar this evening to the west and north. We will keep an eye on them in case they survive. The atmosphere is becoming more humid again as moisture begins to move in from the west and south.
As far as Saturday goes there may be some downpours around daybreak and then after a brief break, another round of downpours later in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures Saturday will be in the 70s. Downpours should disappear at night only to fire up again later on Sunday though there may be more to the west rather than to the east. Monday looks like more downpours and thunderstorms will fire up later in the day and this repeats again on Tuesday.
LONG ISLAND RAINFALL FORECAST THROUGH 8PM SUNDAY
Rainfall should easily hit the 1 to 2 inch rain by Sunday evening however the wild card here is the time of year and the convective nature of these downpours. Any one of them could produce a couple of inches of rain very fast so bear that in mind. There will be a lot of variability.
