Severe Weather Flash Flooding Long Island Boiler Plate Opened
It has been said that there is a boiler plate covering Long Island keeping it from getting some of the heavy rains that have fallen elsewhere. This week it seems that the plate is gone as Long Island got clobbered by severe weather early in the week and now is getting clobbered by heavy rains, flash flooding, and severe weather like everyone else in the area. We are seeing more heavy downpours moving through this morning. While this first area will move out and there could be a short break, satellite and radar loops are showing the next surge of rain beginning to blossom out in parts of Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey.
Rainfall forecast amounts over the next 2 days (through Monday evening) could easily be 2 to 3 inches and some areas could see double those amounts in some heavier downpours and thunderstorms.
EASTERN SATELLITE LOOP
This round of rain today is likely to produce several inches of rain. Also beware that in some severe thunderstorms some rotation is possible and a tornado is not out of the question. We have seen EF0 tornadoes (weakest on the scale) in situations like this when you are dealing with a deep trough to the west and a strong southerly flow aloft.
This pattern will continue through Tuesday and then the upper low to the west will get kicked out on Wednesday. Weather conditions could improve somewhat after that but the threat for downpours and thunderstorms will be in the forecast pretty much all next week.
