Flash Flood Watch For Long Island Today More Rain Late Scattered Thunderstorms
Long Island probably has fared a little better from Henri with regards to rainfall. Yes 2 to 5 inches of rain has fallen so far but that is roughly half of what has fallen in places to the west and northwest. The ground is saturated so as the remnant low of Henri now in the Catskills moves to the east, additional rain will move back in. The threshold for flooding is low and a flash flood watch continues today.
SATELLITE
As Henri moves to the east later today we could see some strong thunderstorms develop around the low center. The bulk of those will move across Connecticut but watch for some scattered thunderstorms that could cross Long Island late this afternoon and evening. Rainfall forecasts call for an additional inch or 2 of rain possible today though there will be quite a bit of variability. Temperatures today will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. When it is not raining we will have clouds with a peak or two of sun possible.
WEATHER RADAR
The low pulls out to the east tonight and we should see some genuine weather improvement in the days ahead. Tuesday through Thursday will be very warm and humid with some sunshine. No shower or thunderstorms are forecast for Tuesday and only a very small chance for a pop up Wednesday and Thursday. Highs both days will be in the low to mid 80s with temperatures a little lower at the beaches.
Friday brings a back door cold front and a high to the north. This will turn the wind to the northeast and could provide a little temperature relief. We are getting into the time of year where northern highs can knock temps down to more reasonable levels. It doesn’t look like any rain is forecast so we may just sit in clouds and sun with temperatures in the 70s for the end of the week and going into the weekend. More on this later.
