Summer Heat Humidity In Full Swing On Long Island

Now that Henri is long gone we settled back into summer mode yesterday with sunshine and very warm temperatures. It seemed we had a slight humidity break yesterday but that will be gone today. The satellite shows skies are clear up and down the East Coast. That leaves us in a day with lots of sunshine from start to finish. Highs on Long Island this afternoon will reach the lower 90s in many inland locations and low to mid 80s at area beaches. Little if any chance exists for a pop up shower or thunderstorm.

Thursday and Friday the very warm to hot conditions will continue though it does seem that today will be the hottest day of this week. Thursday highs will be a bit lower with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 inland and mid to upper 80s on Friday. Look for sunshine and some clouds Thursday and Friday. A backdoor cold front will move through Friday evening and that might produce a thunderstorm as it goes by.

This leaves us with a cooler weekend with an onshore flow. Clouds will be around but there should be some sun both Saturday and Sunday. The frontal boundary being coast means we need to keep a side eye on it just in case we see some downpours generated by it. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be cooler with the ocean wind, mid 70s to around or just over 80 for highs  both days. Longer range next week a bit of a change in the upper pattern is in store with the northern jet stream becoming more active and that will likely bring fronts through every few days with new air masses. This may eventually lead to some humidity relief as well as temperatures that could spend more time below average than above it. As for the tropics, attention will be shifting to the Northwest Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico where we could see several tropical systems there in the next few weeks.
