Long Island Heat Humidity Continues Weekend Relief But Comes With Issues

Here we are with another hot humid late August day on Long Island. It looks like another very good day for the beach or the pool. There isn’t much showing up on the satellite as far as clouds are concerned so we should see plenty of sunshine all day long. There is a small chance for a late day or evening pop up shower or thundertorm. I’m throwing it in the forecast just in case. Highs will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s with temps a little cooler at the shore.

Nothing is on the radar at the moment other than the usual ground clutter. We will just keep a side eye on the radar in case something pops up in this hot humid air masses but as we stated earlier the chances are very low.

We have one more hot humid day to get through and that is Friday. A cold front is approaching and it will move move through Friday night and stall out to our south on Saturday. Highs Friday will approach 90 degrees or at least the upper 80s one more time. Humidity will be high. The front could set off a thunderstorm or two Friday night as the front passes.

Long Island is going to be south of the frontal boundary over the weekend which puts us in a weak onshore flow. At least that means that temperatures will probably not get much above 80 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. In fact the ocean wind will likely keep temperatures in the 70s all weekend long. The issue will be cloud cover and whether there might be some showers and downpours running around. I would describe both weekend days as cloudy to occasionally partly sunny with the risk for a downpour or a thunderstorm. Showers and thunderstorms will be more likely near the frontal zone which lies across Central New Jersey. Nonetheless the risk is there for some showers over the weekend but it should be emphasized that it doesn’t rain all the time and there will be long dry stretches in between any clusters of storms. We will be at the mercy of the radar over the weekend as to when anything happens and at what time so plan accordingly.
