Flood Watch Coastal Flood Advisory Long Island Thursday
Flood Watch Coastal Flood Advisory Long Island Thursday
We have a Flood Watch up for Long Island due to the arrival of heavy rains for the Thursday morning commute. We also have a Coastal Flood Advisory posted for the Thursday morning high tides along the south shore. Strong southeast winds will develop and this could create some minor coastal flooding at the high tide on Thursday. Thankfully we do not have a full moon or a new moon to deal with otherwise coastal flooding would be more serious.
Flooding from rain could be the bigger issue in the usual suspect spots. This is going to be the 4th rain event of the last 10 days of an inch or more. We will be watching the radars to see where the heaviest downpours set up. The first push will come during the Thursday morning commute so extra time this morning is advised for road travel. The latest satellite loop shows the strong spring storm developing in the Ohio Valley and the feed of tropical moisture coming northward. The strong southeast flow from off the ocean will provide a rich moisture source here. 1 to 2 inches of rain is likely with some locally higher amounts.
Radars will be busy this morning and there will be several surges of downpours throughout the day with the last one coming at the start of the evening commute home.
Friday weather condtions will improve though there will be some showers around in the afternoon and evening. The weekend looks good though it will be cool on Saturday with sunshine and highs in the low to mid 50s. Sunday sunshine should boost temperatures up into the 60s. Then Monday and Tuesday if the wind is westerly we could see our first 70 degree readings in some places especially away from the ocean.
