Frigid Temperatures Snow Long Island Weather
No doubt about the fact that the cold air has arrived on Long Island this morning. Temperatures have fallen into the 20s and wind chills at the moment are in the single digits and are going to stay there all day.
FRIGID TEMPERATURES SNOW 9AM OBSERVATIONS
Tonight will be very cold with temperatures falling into the single digits to near 10. Skies will be clear but there still will be a wind so wind chills will be below zero.. Friday looks dry with sunshine giving way to arriving clouds and highs just into the 20s. The satellite loop below shows clouds sweeping across the northeast with occasional bands of snow showers and there could be one or two of those marching through today.
As far as this snow situation is concerned we are thinking on the order of a coating to an inch east with a changeover to rain by 7am to as much as 2 to 3 inches Northwest Suffolk County and Nassau County to NYC with a changeover to rain by 8 or 9am at the latest.
FRIGID TEMPERATURES SNOW ACCUMULATION FORECAST
Once this changes over to rain we will see temperatures rise into and through the 40s so anything that accumulates will get washed away or just melt. The rain on Saturday will taper off during the early afternoon and we will have drizzle and fog into Sunday morning. Another surge of rain is likely Sunday as temperatures fall back into the 30s by Sunday night.
